Detection of HHV-6 genome in the epithelial cells in the kidney biopsy from a patient who underwent kidney transplantation and later developed transplant rejection. The patient was successfully treated with gangcyclovir. HHV-6 was detected by monoclonal antibodies to the gp110 late antigen (H-AR-2). The staining indicates that HHV-6 is replicating in the epithelial cells has been later confirmed by PCR and in situ hybridization.
